About Trace Milan

Trace Milan is one of the most respected and recognized criminal defense attorneys on California’s Central Coast. In his 16 years of practice, he has achieved jury trial victories for charges including driving under the influence (DUI), domestic violence, three strikes, firearms violations, and murder.

Trace is known for his proficiency in negotiating favorable outcomes for clients, including high-profile cases. He handled a homicide case where his client was directly involved in a fraternity hazing death of a fellow student, and the client was allowed to remain a student at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). Trace’s commitment to justice extends beyond the courtroom, as he has successfully sued San Luis Obispo County on behalf of an inmate with a disability who was mistreated inside the county jail, resulting in a six-figure settlement.

Prior to pursuing his legal career, Trace enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a field corpsman/combat medic with a U.S. Marine Corps combat unit during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He excelled academically, receiving a Regent’s Scholarship for speech and debate and winning national competitions in multiple categories while studying at Arizona State University.

Trace graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law and completed the prestigious “trial track” degree program. His experience includes clerkships at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Compton Division and the Santa Barbara Public Defender’s Santa Maria Division.
